Savage and Gray Design are proud to have their work for the British Science Festival 2011 shortlisted for the Cardiff Design Festival Awards.
All shortlisted submissions are on view at the Senedd forming the Best of Welsh Design touring exhibition.
Work chosen for the showcase is deemed to be of noteworthy national standard, suitable to represent the talent of the Welsh Design community anywhere in the world.

We've just finished work on our fifth edition of the University of Glamorgan Students' Union Guide which we had a lot of fun making. Based around the theme of BIG to represent the brand new Union facility, our concept included high-impact graphics for each spread using a mixture of 3D models shot in the studio, illustration, found textures and typography, to give the product a hand-made, collaged feel. Savage and Gray have just completed work on the first stage of www.bvillage.co.uk for Bridgend College. The site features an avatar maker, interactive map and commenting system. Developments in the next few week will feature polls, special guest avatars and a quiz where registered users could win a laptop computer, as well as other prizes.

Colourful Noise for Spectacle Theatre

Formed in 1979 and based at Coleg Morgannwg in the world famous Rhondda Valley, Spectacle Theatre create quality theatre for schools, communities and theatre venues throughout Wales and further afield.
'The Sound Collector’ looks at the way sounds shape and dictate our lives and combines Roger McGough's delightful poetry with a gentle, funny story of friendship and tolerance.
Savage and Gray created a selection of visuals for the client to choose from. The chosen idea was then refined for use on marketing materials.

What On Earth? Goes Live

British biodiversity is currently under threat, with thousands of our plants and animals facing habitat destruction and homelessness. What on Earth is a call-to-action to identify as many plants and animals as possible in UK parks, gardens and hedgerows. The site invites you to go outside and reconnect with all the weird and wonderful flora and fauna that inhabit our small but diverse land.
Savage and Gray were commissioned to create a site where users could upload images and have them identified by experts. An interactive map of the World displays where the images have come from - and we've currently had uploads from as far away as Zambia, Russia and India.

Outrageous Fortune for Gwent Theatre

Founded in 1976, Gwent Theatre has been presenting the highest quality theatre performances for young people in schools and at community venues for over 30 years.
Having previously worked with the company, Savage and Gray were invited to create show imagery for a new play commissioned by Gwent Theatre for 9 - 13 year olds. 'Slings and Arrows' is a dark comedy that introduces the audience to the major themes of Shakespeare's greatest play - “Hamlet”.

Get Into The Mix

The Mix is a youth music scheme from Yo!Maz, a youth music action group providing opportunities, events and workshops for young people.
The Mix will offer over 50 free projects in the next year to young people in Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Merthyr Tydfil. Projects will include Dj'ing and Hip Hop Skills, making your own ringtone and recording your own track. National Science and Engineering Week (NSEW) is a ten day programme of science, engineering and technology events and activities across the UK aimed at people of all ages, from 12 – 21 March 2010.
To tie-in to the event, Savage and Gray are producing whatonearth.org.uk, a mass participation website inviting the British public to go into their parks or gardens and rediscover their surroundings, opening their eyes to all the plants and animals they wouldn’t normally notice. We are encouraging the public to upload photos of anything they don’t recognize to the ‘What on Earth’ site, where scientists will identify as many of them as possible. The site will map the range of biodiversity found by the British public, highlighting the most unusual species that are found.

Double Silver Awards for Bridgend College

The College Marketing Network's FE First Awards are now well established as the sector’s annual opportunity to celebrate marketing best practice and innovative and creative thinking. Over 100 colleges entered the Awards in 2009, with 130 entries across the 15 categories.
The ceremony was held on Monday 23rd November at the Hilton Hotel in Coventry, and Bridgend College were one of only three colleges to get more than one award; Silvers in both the Higher Education Prospectus and Best Use of Integrated Media for a Summer Campaign categories.

The Bankrupt Bride is a brand-new musical from Theatr Na n'Og which tells the story of a bridal shop owner whose entire existence revolves around getting brides ready for their big day. 30 Metre Outdoor Display for The National Trust

Leeds University Launch Website on BBCs One Show
Savage and Gray have just produced a CMS website for Leeds University Psychology Faculty; www.thebigmemoryshare.com. The Leeds psychologists want to record viewers’ very first memory from childhood and also their memories of items of major public news – ‘flashbulb’ memories. Their aim is to gather more than 20,000 samples to help them with their ongoing work into how children develop a capacity for memory, how adults process memory and how memories change as people get older. The Portrait of a Nation Exhibition, designed by Savage and Gray, was unveiled in an evening launch party which included some great speeches and some very interactive performances. The exhibition will now be transported to Liverpool to take part in a national event celebrating and explorating cultural identity with young people. Earlier this month we were invited to produce the four year strategy plan for the Cardiff and Childrens Young Persons Partnership. We wanted to convey the energy and vitality of the young people of the capital creating a vibrant illustrative style for use within the design of the reports.

The pack inlcuded 2 x 92page reports, 1 x 122p plan, 1 x 132 plan and 2 x young persons guides aimed directly at users of the initiative.

The pack was produced bilingually, and will be distributed throughout November.

The UK Festival of Science ended in style with a gala dinner at the Liverpool University Carnatic Rooms in the European City of Culture 2008 - Liverpool. We were thrilled to attend, with guest list drawn from across the science fraternity.

As the Festival design consultants we got a fantastic response to this years branding from our fellow guests, with the Magical Memory tour site attracting over 15,000 hits throughout the duration of the event.

We have just finished the design development for the new look site for the west wales venue.
A joint partnership between Savage and Gray, local developers aSplash.com we have been asked to expand our successful visual identity established for the events guide, to their online presence.

The site will utilise ticketsolve integration to provide online booking for customers and database management for the marketing team.

Due to launch in November we'll keep you posted when it goes live.

Portrait of a Nation Exhibition

We are currently putting the finishing touches to to a major exhibition at St Davids Hall part of Cardiff's contribution to “Portrait of a Nation” - a national celebration and exploration of cultural identity with young people run by Liverpool Culture Company, 17 UK partner cities and the Heritage Lottery Fund during Liverpool’s year-long reign as the European City of Culture 2008.

Working closely with the Arts Active team the exhibition will feature audio and visual elements that tell the story of a great Nation.
